How 15 minutes became 5 hours...

Okay, as I took a break from my intuition...and have not finished my other UFO's or my nieces piece...I decided to play with 1/2 yards and act as though they were scraps...I had recently purchased all of the butterfly fabric I could find in my fave City quilt shop..and then picked up some other neutral fabrics for ..what i imagined would be the backing..

I sat down, started stitching and cutting and Voila....

Scrappy blocks...Now where did the beige squares come from you ask...Well I realized i needed something somewhat neutral to off set the busyness of the scrappy blocks...so this is what i came up with.  Now I am thinking about framing the middle with strips of the tangerine butterfly fabric...thin, since thats what i have left..then proceed with making borders around with the other fabric squares and remaining fabric that I have left.

This was a bit of a color challenge for me because of all the browns and neutral tones...I am stretching...trying to move beyond my color comfort zone...Lets see how big it becomes.

  4. Beautiful! Love the idea of adding color, like tangerine, or even some of that yummy green - or the aqua or lavender found in the prints. Looking forward to seeing what's next!

  6. It is wonderful! I am always impressed when things go so well from just random pieces. My mom loves butterflies and I bought a bunch of butterflies last year sometime with the purpose of making her a quilt.

    glen; maybe this spring!
