Finishing touches for NY Blooms

At last I found the backing fabric for New York Blooms tucked away in one of my baskets. I had this in mind after putting the final subway fabric border around but couldn't remember where I had stored it.

The machine quilting in the ditch around the four blocks has been done, also in the ditch either side of the narrow pink border. I really don't want to put any quilting in the subway border I think it would spoil the effect of the coloured tracks meandering across the black background, so I'm going to pass on that.
My hand has settled down a little now so I picked out some of my thread and intend to go ahead with hand quilting within the blooms.

Another two weeks and this should be finished, hopefully it can go into my exhibition February next.

My blooms are now ready to be quilted!

I had toyed with putting an extra border around  15 Minutes Play style and actually started to piece  fabric scraps together but then decided I really wanted the blooms to be the focal point and the lovely subway fabric as a simple border, so here it is and I am more than happy with how it looks. Thank you Helen for sending me the extra yard of the fabric, without it I wouldn't have been able to do this.

Now I can finish the remaining blocks for my first piece after Victoria kindly let me join the group - when I look at the nine blocks on the wall I  constantly am reminded for some reason of a fruit salad, therefore when this goes into my exhibition in February it's going to be either Tropical Fruit Salad or Tutti Frutti - rather like the last name best!

New York Blooms update

Hi again
Just posting another pic of the Blooms, took the shot in mid-morning light today and this time it is the true colour.  I am playing around with border ideas at the moment so there a a few bits that need trimming and so on, but hope to get further along tomorrow.  You will probably see that it was not quite straight on the wall so it looks a teeny bit lopsided. Realised the problem I have, my pacemaker is on my left side very near my shoulder and it's  a bit tight so when I reach up to the wall my left hand  is not going quite as high as my right!!!  When I crop I am cutting a little bit off the bottom right hand side.

I received the Subway fabric yesterday which Helen very kindly sent on to me so I was able to add the first set of borders to this piece and then went on to a lovely rich magenta/pink solid for a very narrow border, I am so pleased with the way this fabric brings out the pink in the blooms and the colour in the subway fabric, but sadly this photo is not doing it justice. I will take another shot tomorrow and see how that turns out - it was fine on my camera and when I downloaded so don't know why it is dulled down like this!!!

However, at least you can see I am now making progress! Have a lovely weekend.

Another post on New York Blooms

Hi again everyone - just been trying out another arrangement and I really like the blocks set this way rather than in the square format. So two photos, one with just the four blocks and then another with a piece of the subway fabric just pinned to see what it looks like. This fabric I had intended to surround the blocks no matter what arrangement. I tried them in a horizontal line but that did nothing for me at all and I am more than happy with this one.  The "blooms" are 7" square.

After borders it will not end up looking so long and skinny.

 

I haven't got them quite straight in the line-up, intending to get a hold of some of the grey gridded fabric which is on the market now instead of my old flannel!
