Let there be Lights!

I have finally finished my whites-lights challenge top.
This is the first time I have done blocks with exclusively made fabric.
I decided to keep it simple and put them all together
without and sashing or extras.

I ended up with thirty 12.5" blocks,
and the top measures 60" x 72"

It's all layered and ready to be quilted.
I'm just pondering how that will go!
Hope you all had a good weekend.

Six More!

Six More Whites-Lights . . .

They seem to be getting brighter,
I think I may need to add to my stash to lighten these up!
What a shame . . . .  hehehehe

growing!

15 made... I'm thinking I will go until it's a twin size... ( heck I might as well try something different!)  The one thing I've noticed is how, as I have been making three blocks a day, (when I get around to it!)  that my color choices are all so unique to the day.

I can pick three that I did on one day, that are more rich in color then the others... Another day I was drawn to yellow, another day was polka dot driven... aqua, etc...

As you lay out your blocks, do you notice the subtleties like that?

What do you see when you lay them all together? Do you think about using them a place to applique? Will you leave them as they are?

Still loving the whites and lights

I decided not to chop up my 12 inch blocks and made strings and stars to sash the blocks with.  I think this photo is slightly brighter than the actual quilt but surprised how much colour is showing as all along I was worried that I had too much white and cream in the blocks.

6 done

6 blocks done... I did more playing with them, (using amazing vintage stars)  but I will try very hard to just make a simple quilt. No guarantees...  ;-)

Whites and Lights . . . I'm in!

I didn't think I had a lot of whites and lights,
but on further  investigation . . .
I have a good pile.

I made this one last night;
I can see this is going to be addicting!

process begun

Off and running... Three blocks made.
There is no rush to this challenge, We will just throw it to the wind and see where we end up in a month or so... How about we say before October 24th, we can be showing where our "Making" leads us.

Join in anytime....

I am loving, using up my lights, all in one quilt.  I am still unpacking projects, and after LeeAnn showed us her shirtings, it made me think about my Quilters BOM blocks...  So I pulled them out of the boxes... and popped one up to see what I thought....
PLAY has begun....My mind is traveling down an interesting quilt making journey.
Got Orphans you can include?
Throw in some extras into the mix?
Add in some Embroidery stitches?

hmmmm..... ideas are rampant!

Remember, you can always add pics tot he FLICKR page too!

Whites/Lights scrap along

OK, I've had many thoughts since I mentioned this white/light scrap along  back in early July. But I am thinking simple is best, this round.
See old post here.

This a definitely a challenge for me personally, as I don't often use white/lights, But how do I make it a challenge for you? Some of you agreed with me, that whites were not a favorite, some are waiting to see where this goes... So, here is what I present to you.

The basis is to start with lights and whites... Within that parameter, you will make decisions on whether you think they fit that category. You will also find you will have lights and darks with in that.

And... Make BIG easy blocks, Quickly. I'm using my 12.5" template ruler, adding big swatches of fabrics to grow them quickly.
(To keep them a 15 minute block...)

The hardest thing for me, and this may sound funny to you, I rarely just make a simple block quilt and call it a day... Seems rather obvious, but usually, by the time I get a big bed sized quilt done, I decide it needs to be something else... It becomes a giant palette for some other idea: or, A giant piece of made fabric, and I cut it all back up again! ( why not?)

What I propose to you, is to MAKE, just make.

It can be a small quilt, medium, large... Makes no difference...

But start with LIGHTs/WHITEs,
MAKE,
LOOK.

And when inspiration jumps out at you... When a color says, "YES, You need more of that color..."
ADD it.

Don't rush it.
I started with  a 5 sided scrap ( gives you 5 easy places to add fabric to quickly) and build with LARGE scrap pieces of fabric. (grows quickly, to stay 15 minutes!) Pressing each time, so my seams lay nice and flat...
Took my time to PLAY with my placement for my cut out...

I'm going for simple...  Will I stick to it? Will I make it more complicated in the end? Does it matter?

Also, if you want to stray and use your blocks for a different setting, GO FOR IT! Let the fabrics and blocks tell you what comes next... If you get a brilliant idea, share it with us! Show us your blocks as you make them. Try to post once a week what you get done...Show and tell!

I'll be making a few more tonight... All this unpacking, a girl needs to sew!

If you want to post along here, and show you work, please email me if you don't already have the posting rights...

Let's see what bubbles up.
