This is the type of thing I have no experience with and want to become better at, so was ready to jump in when V put out the challenge.
Here is my original photo:
I do not like photos of myself and rarely show them in blogland.
And here is my completed portrait:
I am very happy with the hair, eyes, glasses, shirt and chin. Very unhappy with the nose and mouth. I loved doing the free motion quilting and look - just like Anne, I did a pebble background! This is the first time I've done this and would use it again on a small project. It takes forever and lots of thread.
Thanks V for the challenge. I learned a lot.

Hey Mary! You had a great start, and yes I agree noses are challenging! There is some definite YOU characteristics in the quilt and the additions around are lovely too.. the quilting, it looks great!
Wow! Really good job. The hair is well done and I love the stitching on the shirt. Darn those noses! I like the pebble stitching, I have wanted to try it. I have also heard it is pretty labor and thread intensive.
Mary,
I think it is wonderful and love your use of fabrics and the pebble finish.
Debbie
I think you really captured the essence of your photo so well and it looks great! You did a LOT more pebble stitching than I did and to better effect!
Looks great! Love your blueblueblue shirt & eyes!
I think it is awesome....noses are hard and mouths are really hard...especially if teeth are visible...I think the finished quilt turned out great. for it not being your thing, you should be very happy!!!!
It looks wonderful, Mary! I agree that quilting pebbles takes a long time and lots of thread, but it sure looks good!
I love the pebble quilting! I agree about the nose and mouth, but you did a great job!
