It's been a while since I have posted my 1st attempt of a portrait. It turned out to be far too small to continue, but I kept going with the same photo.
My main challenges (apart from it still being too small for my hands) were a good background - and how to get the head decent on some shoulders so it would look OK. Well, after a lot of trial and error, I decided to go for this:I put my head on a balloon ( even though in real life balloons shouldn't have fabric wrinkles or pleats...). Does it still look like me, well, I am not sure. That's where I am at. I still need to define my face more, somehow.
It's been fun and I will continue!

perhaps your details will come in quilting it? I purposefully left some out for that reason...I like your face and head, it looks good! How did you come up with balloons?
I think it is a wonderful portrait and layout, something different and fun.
Mine certainly doesn't look like me and I am still looking at it, will work on details and shadows next, but I am just enjoying the process, not worrying about being perfect or a likeness, at this point.

curious too about the balloons? does it have some special meaning?
I like it! Your face needs more of a smile - then it will look like you!! Good work - keep going and what's with the balloons? What a gtood idea!!
No, the balloons just popped into my head - and I outlined one over my paper portrait. It fit and I went with it.
I think it is a wonderful portrait. I'm noticing a trend . . . a LOT of us wear glasses. Maybe some enterprising eyeglass designer will come up with a special line of glasses for quilters!
