Intuition Quilt, First go

Going into this challenge I knew a few things: I would make a bright wall hanging for my daughter's birthday next week, I would restrict myself to work only with scraps from one specific box of scraps, and documenting all the Whys would be a challenge.

I finally located the box which was cleared away for the holidays and started grabbing bright fabrics with a few neutrals and whites to make it interesting.
Then I sorted all the pieces into piles by colour, leaving the crumbs for the centre block.
I laid the crumbs on the table and started puzzling them together. Daughter loves pinks, but they needed some cool colours to set them off.
The blue on the left was too dark and needed to be replaced

and a new piece of blue was added to keep the balance.
Using scissors I cut off all weird edges to make the pieces easily sew able.
Using a piece of felt I arranged the pieces into sections and started sewing them together, ironing and cleaning up edges as I moved on.
It needed one more piece of blue and one more piece of white and a little triangle in the upper left corner
and the centre was almost done.

It was not quite big or square enough so I added strips of fabric to three of the sides.

I have worked a lot with appliqué lately, so it was fun just piecing stuff together!
