Two New Borders
After seeing the beginning of this quilt on the design wall, my husband pulled one of his Hawaiian shirts and gave it to me to use. I cut it into strips following the shirt pattern, then cut the strips into units to sew together for this border. The stylized drawings and the white flowers are all from the same shirt. The colors go perfectly with the fabric in the original piece. With this border, the project began taking on a definite island trend.
I have a nice small collection of Hawaiian fabrics from when I lived there a few years ago. I decided to follow the trend. I pulled out a larger piece of the same anthurium fabric I used in the center section, and created a wide border. Now, it is 41" square. I want to grow it to at least 60". I am not really sure what comes next. I will leave it on the design wall while I work on other projects and see what it says to me. I also welcome any suggestions from you all.

I LOVE this! I'm a sucker for Hawaiian prints, especially the ones in black, white and red. How about another border of made fabric like the middle, maybe with more of the anthuriums in it?
P.S. Great story about your hubby offering his shirt. Now, that's the spirit!
Wow this is shaping up beautifully! What a guy you have there!!
What a lovely husband! It's looking great.
That reminds of the add where the quilters cut a piece of one of their husband's shirts while he is napping. SO great that your hubby actually offered you his shirt :-) This is looking great!
I love it more and more! I think I will check out franks closet while he sleeps tonight.........
It is looking great! My suggestion is for your husband...keep a close check on the rest of your shirts!!
You have such an artistic eye! and what a husband - gives a new meaning to the expression "giving you the shirt of his back"! Love it!
Love that shirt fabric! Do you have a photo of the shirt before you got to cut it up?
