I'm delighted to be asked to judge your improvisational block contest!
The basics I kept in mind were
1-Must be using 'made fabric'
2-The final piece needs to be a 'block' that can be used in repeat
3-A block with some visual punch with used in multiple

Victoria sent me a nice photo collage of the blocks to review.
The most exciting part to me is the 'made fabric'.
So if someone says 'made fabric' I'm THERE in a heart beat!... But I digress!

Let's look at these blocks in shades of gray.. so see how they hold up.
I was looking for a block that when it went to gray it still had great life to it.
good design that looked like it would hold up to being repeated in a quilt.
To prove that out I decided to see how it worked out side by side

And for color combo I ADORE Deb's Black/White/Lime!

Thanks so much, Pat and Victoria! My prize fabrics will liven up anything I make with them. This was lots of fun, and I'll continue to play in my sewing room.
Congratulations to all the winners! Very inspirational ideas to try...would love to know how to do the 5 pointed star!
I am so excited! Margaret, you are a really worthy winner...hope we will see that virtual quilt 'in the cloth' soon!
PS Will post how I did the 5 point star for you, Nancy, soon!

Wow! What a lot of creative ideas here. Wouldn't it be fun to exhibit these blocks at our Fall Show?
Congratulations, winners! Margaret, your block is sensational!
I so enjoyed doing this challenge. Thanks, Victoria, for organising it and thanks to all the nice ladies/men who voted for my block.
Oh boy ... this is exciting & interesting ... I learned a lot reading Pat's explanation on the selection process ... need to learn how to do that, too! Thanks, V for running this fun challenge, & for arranging for the judging & prizes. Like many others I found it difficult to pick one winner. Thanks to all who participated ... that's what makes this such a great blog!
Cynthia's might be underrated
