Solids segmented swap - first attempt

I had been thinking about how to approach my segmented quilt, then I thought I'd just dive right in and see what I could do... I have more fabric.  Again, here's the inspiration picture:

And here's what I did for the final quilt:

That green on the right is actually a dark green, not aqua.  It's interesting how the colors paled out in the photo.

Does it need something else??  To me it looks sort of blah... any suggestions???

Ahhhhh! I like!

Of course I love the look of black in quilts. I would probably add some black. Just my particular like.

You would think of embelishments now. If you wanted to go that way.

Or even some incredible quilting might set it off.

Ohhhh! The possibilities!

You have inspired me to get started on mine.
What if you tried to do something like the zig-zags in the inspiration piece? I am not sure how you would do that, but you are very talented and could probably figure it out.

What about rick-rack? It comes in solid colors.

I love your interpretation! You hit the inspiration on the dot. Very nice!

Thanks, I think I like the idea of a little black. And the yellow is a bit too pale, maybe something that goes more towards gold, even close to orange.

The strong element that holds all the blocks of color together in this Matisse is the diagonal black lines.

The artist did them as a zig zag but it's the directonality that gives it cohesion.

A thought!! If you cut zig zag lines across the quilt and wove black strips ? Like a paper lantern Try it out on paper first!!! Have fun

The black in the painting really adds depth... and I agree the yellow fabric "seams" a little pale. Overall a great capture of the Matisse!
