MAY block + refresher on MADE FABRIC

 LOVE BeeBee's BLOCK for MAY!!!
It's on it's way to you today! (Kind of hard to let this one go!)

 INSPIRATION!!!

REFRESHER COURSE

Since we've had some new people join recently,
I thought I'd do a quick refresher on:

MAKING FABRIC

The Key elements in MAKING FABRIC is:

A small STITCH  LENGTH and  a HOT iron!

2 or under on your stitch length works best.

Why?  So when you sew your MADE FABRIC  and cut it later,
your seams will STAY TOGETHER when you tug on them.
Tight stitch length a must!

** A LARGE stitch length, will pull apart when you cut your MADE FABRIC...
You don't want this to happen. Messy Messy!

 TRIM your seam allowances evenly...

and PRESS each time to add a piece with a nice HOT IRON.

Your back of the fabric will look as fabulous as the front and it will lay flat!

LOOK at your MADE FABRIC.
You find GLORIOUS Discoveries...

For instance... Making BeeBee's May Block today, I made a bunch of MADE FABRIC.
Pink, orange, lime green Red and blue...
Weird combo! But LOOK how ZINGY that red is!
How scrumptious that GREEN is!

Then the Magical thing happens...

Idea's start to POP!

And then you have this:

 Which may lead to THIS...

And well... you see my point... right?

Thank you BeeBee for starting my creative juices today with your
Beautiful BLOCK for MAY!!

Thanks for the refresher, Victoria. I've been meaning to try this, but keep putting it off because I didn't want to take the time to figure things out on my own. (Call me lazy!)

It's interesting to hear you describe the process of making fabric out of scraps. That's exactly what I found myself doing intuitively from the get-go, although you've offered a lot of inspiration about the kinds of things you can do with the pieced fabrics. I know I'll make something out of the 15-minutes play blocks. If I can find a way to use mauve, I feel like I can do anything!

Thanks for the refresher Victoria, I had no idea that I was to use a very small stitch for the "made fabric", now I do! I have been feeling a little frustrated trying to figure out the easiest way to add the pieces together, sometimes I feel like I am moving in a circle making my fabric..am I doing something wrong? I always take a moment to stop and look at your patches of made fabric for inspiration so please keep em coming! Thanks!

Thank you for the tutorial! I really want to give it a try, now that I've accumulated so may scraps from my other projects.
