Aqua & Maroon

Catching up here, posting my aqua and maroon blocks.

Aqua
My aqua was plenty bright, so there was no confusing it with mint. (Although when you pair this aqua with the chocolate brown, I'm seeing mint chip ice cream here too!)

I love how the bright colors and how they pop with the aqua, but that they're grounded with the brown. I like how the bright colors keep the aqua looking fresh.

Maroon
This was a third attempt at fabric choices for me. I too kept running into the maroon and gold school colors issue. Then I found the small squares fabric and the green millefiore fabric and knew that I'd found my direction. I was pleasantly surprised to see how the coral and the blue worked too--maroon is more friendly than I'd expected. I wasn't expecting to like this block, but I really do!

I laid out my blocks in two different orientations. I like both at the moment. I think if I go with the on-point setting, I'll have to come up with some sort of half-block design for the setting triangles, because I'd really like the design to continue to the edges. (Which might be enough to push me to the straight setting!)

And then, if you're still following along, I wanted to share my "made fabric" project from last week, in honor of the 4th of July.
I haven't done any monochromatic made fabric before, and I really enjoyed it--love the texture it creates!

I like the ribbon effect when all the star blocks are set together.

My vote goes to the square setting. Lots of movement and unexpected color changes as the blocks meet.
The white on red makes the it pop!!

Your blocks look Fabulous. any which way you choose! Your Star and stripes is FABULOUS!!!!! The made fabric just gives it so much dimension and so much more fabric! Way to PLAY!

I like the way it looks, either way is really neat. But I am a bit surprised. I didn't think it would look like that at all!

What a pleasant surprise though.

I really like the diagonal set because you get more of the ribbon effect, but they are both great. Love your maroon block. I'm having trouble with fabric selection on this one too.

I think I like both settings equally. And i LOVE LOVE LOVE the star and stripes quilt. I love that it's long and skinny!

Hi Ellie,
I am a sucker for an on-point setting - but I actually prefer your square setting, as it has an on-point look, with your ribbons going diagonally! Your blocks look great, and the red-white-and-blue piece is super!

Thanks for the opinions, everyone! I was surprised how little I see the stars in the blocks in either layout--the brightly colored made fabric certainly jumps out!
