This is a monochromatic block compared with the others. There is a little brown/tan in the one fish and on the bottom border. I tried many colors with maroon (olive green, navy blue, pink, and peach to name a few) and then realized I liked the sophistication of black, tan, and grey with maroon. This is a color I would never have imagined using, but now I will definitely keep it in the stash. I also realized again that I am drawn to using black, which I wear a lot of but never thought about using in my quilts.
Here are all my blocks so far - a real mismash! The brights and the blacks are pretty well distributed with the above arrangement. I am beginning to think the blocks may remain their different sizes with a few adjustments and black sashing.

Wow! They look so great together!!
I LOVE this block!
I like how you have added just a touch of Asia to the blocks with the Japanese style fabrics! It goes very well with all the colours.
Wow, Willa!!! Love this block. Very elegant colors, indeed. I like that you left the koy fish remain so prominent! Black is such a dynamic statement!!
Love, love, love all your blocks together. Can't wait to see your finish project(s).
Seeing all the blocks together is amazing! I love each block individually, but together they make such a powerful and exciting statement. I am so glad you decided to play along with this challenge.
A truly wonderful set of blocks. What good fun you are going to have deciding what to do with them. Whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be something special.
