My Color (Baggage) Challenge Quilt

Hi All! So, Along the way of the Color Challenge, You saw most of my PLAY, with the layout of the Blocks... Each week, I had tried a different arrangement. I had many favorite ways to lay them out, but, the ONE THING I try to do each time I make a quilt, is to find a layout that I have not done before. A NEW element each time I build a quilt.  So this quilt was no different.  I decided my layout, then started playing with bordering fabrics... I went from really crazy to subtle, to vintage...
I brought in my hubby for his opinion, ( might not do that again ) Although I think the setting and fabrics he chose are cozy, they maybe a bit safe for me.  Well, I listened to my hubby. ;-)  So I will always think of this quilt of him, since he chose the final palette.  My personal choice? was this grey rose fabric below... REALLY crazy...

Ultimately, I ended up with  HUGE stack of trial pieces cut, that I guess will now become there own quilt! Thankfully, the colors all go with each other nicely! I'm not usually so wrapped up in the fabric choices... I sort of just them it happen... So, What did hubby choose?  A print I was saving to make some jammie bottoms out of!  LOL!

COLOR BAGGAGE QUILT 66" X 78"

My layout, Yes, is all Y seams... Good Lordy! But I think it was worth it, and each time I do this many Y seams, the easier they get...

Once I had it all together, I found a LONELY LOST ORANGE block on the floor! I guess he will go on the back. I don't worry about the mistake of not including it, I use it as an opportunity to turn it into something else! There are no mistakes, just make more quilts!

I did find a way to FUNK it up though, with the Jay MacCarroll fabric for the backing. I can tell you, had I found that fabric sooner, I would have used that in the front!!!! Oh well! ;-)

My WHITE/LIGHT bin of fabrics is filling up! I'm ready to start playing... Inspiration is running strong today!

Striking setting! I think it's good for me to go with others' ideas sometimes. Otherwise, everything I make looks the same! Can't say that's true for you, but you know... You're really building suspense with those light colors. Can't wait to see what you're planning!

Victoria, I love it! (Though looking at your trial options, I like the blue dot too, but I'm way more matchy-matchy than you.) I need to get back to my color challenge blocks--some other projects have gotten in the way!

Oh my lord! I was working on a very similar setting. Like a lightening bolt. Haha. Great minds think alike. I guess I will fiddle with something else. Yours looks tremendous!

I was grooving on the dots, but didn't have enough to do the whole thing. I really wanted to get it done before heading back to NYC this week, or I might have ordered it! :-)

Love that setting. Your husband did a good job picking the color. It is subtle yet graphic. Lets the blocks shine through. I love your idea of a different setting for each quilt.

Your quilt is very striking with the man-chosen fabric! Something a bit different (and I mean that in a good way). You have been winding us up with your low-value materials - yes, I am collecting them too and looking forward to a new patchwork adventure.

what you did is awesome and SO YOU!! ORIGINAL!!!
I love it. you are inspiring me to move away from cookie cutter expected quilt patterns. I love it.
I have some ideas and bought a pair of large Lilly Pulitzer pants just so i could cut them up in a border for a quilt in progress!!!
Like everyone else, I can't wait to hear more about the white/light play - YOU GO GIRL!

This is Boo's quilt right? Love the zig zag setting... guess it does NOT need a border.

I must be hungry . . . thinking chocolate & cherry or raspberry. Great choice on the fabric and the setting.
