RURAL ROADS-AERIAL VIEW

This is a small piece that I finished recently.
It was inspired by a block that I made for a round robin group that I belong to and I never sent it because I liked one particular scrap of fabric in it.
(not too much of a hoarder am I ?)

I had been wanting to make a low-volume quilt for a while.
I also wanted to use up the charm squares from a year long guild exchange, done in the late 90's. which were numerous and mostly hideous .
I had an idea and sorted thru my squares, taking out the light ones, using the reverse side of brighter ones and even managing to use up those poly ones that I detested.

I made fabric.
I stacked, slashed, pieced and cut and pieced some more.
Then I added the green strings between the sections because it was too boring and  it started to look to me like farmland viewed from an airplane.
I quilted it myself in vertical and horizontal lines to represent latitude and longitude lines.
Simple but I think it does the trick-sorry about the crappy pic!
First time facing a quilt instead of binding it.
I am very happy with it!
(even my charm square pile is a little smaller)

I really like this, but out of curiousity--which scrap of fabric made you keep this?

Great quilt! I love quilts that look like aerial maps or photos.

Mary Ann, check out my flikr here and you can get a closer look at the starter block and the fabric. I have notes on the picture.

Would like to know how you quilted this. Is it a running zigzag stitch (a favorite of mine)?

Fabulous! What a great use of 'scraps'...

Helen it is just a straight stitch.
I used a cotton fleece(think baby blankets) as the batting so it is flat but stable and drapes really well.
