Like Teresa, "FOCUS" is my word for 2014. Thinking about the challenge, I realized that I am too easily distracted by new combinations of fabrics, techniques and ideas. I tend to lose interest in a project once I can see how it will turn out. This year I will pay more attention to the act of making and completing something and not just its design. In life in general, I want to focus more on the people and things that are truly important to me.
My "made" fabric is a little more ordered. I had a bunch of narrow strips of varying widths which were sewn together randomly in stacks of roughly 2". These were then joined into one giant strip. I folded this strip in half and sewed down one side like in a Jelly Roll Race. I kept folding the piece and sewing down one side until I had a large rectangle. It was a very fast way to make fabric. The letters were sewn using reverse applique.
It was great fun to participate in this challenge and I hope that the resolution to FOCUS in 2014 is one that I keep. Thanks to everyone for the visual inspiration!

Great word choice. I love the technique you describe for the made fabric. I may have to dig out some strings and play with this idea.
I like the idea of joining strips of different widths and the reverse applique.
Love ~ especially how the word itself looks in focus admidst the stripes!
Clever! I want to try that strip-piecing method, now, too. Must keep my focus on current projects. thanks for the inspiration.
I think the strip-pieced fabric is a good fit for your quilt design. I am like you and often don't feel the need to finish projects, once the design is complete and any problems are solved. I admire your choice of FOCUS - and wish you good luck with your efforts.
Love those narrow strips, and the black background and binding look great. Your word has multiple meanings and I see it as appreciating the visual art of quilting, too. Beautiful work!!
All the small word quilts are adorable. "Focus" is a touchstone word for me too.
Love what you did with your word! It is a wonderful application of made fabric.
LOVE IT!!! bright happy and so in focus!
