plugging along

Slowly but surely I am getting mine done... I'm trying to take my time on this, and not rush it...
Working with all these little bits for the border is very putzy but very me...
I guess mine is growing over the 16" X 20" size i said, I just felt it needed some more
"ME" in the photo...
I pulled some fabric that I used for my eyes to add the inner border.
I like how it draws you out into the picture...

Thinking very hard about how to machine quilt this... Hoping to figure that out...

How about the rest of you?
A bunch have a great start, a few are still searching for photos...

I am hand sewing mine. I have never done applique with the machine, something I need to try. I could not get my placements right, so I taped the design and fabric to the window and used a blue pencil to chalk in the main parts, made it a lot easier.

I can't get over how much this looks like you!

I'm still looking for a picture to use......
and looking at books for how to get started.
Remember the book " Faces and Places Images in Applique" by Charlotte Warr Andersen? I have that book out from the library, in it she has a great quote. " I believe too many people set too low expectations for themselves.
Push yourself past what you think are your limits. It's the only way you'll grow and develop talent and surpass what you've done before.

I find the first step is always the hardest......I'm gonna find a picture or get a new one!

Happy Sewing

It's amazing, Victoria!
To be on the safe side - is it 12"*16" as in this post or 16"*20" as in the invitation? I'm working on a 16"*20" format but it is no problem to adjust the size now.

Oops, I thought you had said 16x20, so that's what mine is and it's too late to go back now.

Your piece just keeps evolving ever more wonderfully. I like how the more muted outer border causes you to focus in to the portrait. I can't wait to see it quilted!
