Say Cheese, Step 1
For my first go at the self portrait challenge, I have printed out this picture (the only half decent picture I have of myself) onto Lutradur using soft greys. The picture was a bit too light to see the lines properly, so while I do recognize my face, it’s not exactly accurate. I used fabric crayons to colour a few parts of the picture. With a whitish background, I look quite scary.-)Changing the background to a greenish patterned linen fabric and adding white and some colourful scraps behind the picture makes all the difference.Still a bit scary, but it’s for fun, right? Now I’ll have to figure out how to quilt this thing; I do have to add some dept into my face for sure or I’ll look like a colourful pancake…

It will be fun to see what you do with this using the many creative techniques you already do.
this is completely new to me... you printed the image directly onto the webbing fabric? And put fabric behind it to have color come through? and added pencil details on top? interesting!
I'm very curious... I don't know exactly what the webbing fabric looks like... something new!
very interesting technique!
I like your technique, looks like a great way to do a portrait.
I had a hard time redrawing from my print out, so I was thinking of printing it out on the transparency this time and then blowing it up. What type of fabric crayons do you use? I have some and didn't have much luck with them.

Wow, that's cool. I predict that the hardest part of the whole process for me will to just get a darn picture printed out. I've never heard of Lutradur (wonder if JoAnn's has it, lol) but I like the idea of being able to put the fabric behind. That kind of preview is just my style!
Great job! And yes, I agree the process is scary, but fun!
This is such an interesting technique. I'm anxious to see how you finish it.
I suspect the technique of layering batting with steps of quilting between that I've posted about may work for you. Victoria posted a link for that in the post previous to this one.
