Today’s 15 minutes of play were spent transforming this little pile of fabric and yarn scraps into a bright butterfly.
The butterfly is for The Butterfly Effect and requires a maximum size of 8”*10” so I started with a piece of charcoal felt cut to this size. Using scissors I free form cut the outline of a butterfly keeping the layers together with pins
and ending up with this simple butterfly shape.
Then I added pieces of fabric from my intuition quilt, a few pieces of yarn on top
and a piece of silvery grey tulle which I pinned down through all layers.
Using black thread I stitched around the edges and the body of the butterfly, free motion quilted the wings
and cut away excess tulle.
It’s really bright on the front,
textured on the back
and ready to fly off all the way to Canada together with grandson’s butterfly.
Safe travel!

Thanks for sharing your process for making this butterfly. It is gorgeous.
That is fantastic! Was it hard to quilt over the tulle and all the layers of yummy goodies in there?
I love the butterfly. I like the effect you get with the tulle.

Love your butterfly! I would like to post your blog on the HGTV quilting boards, so other quilters can see what you are up too. Can I have your permission to do that?
