dinosaur fun with color

My daughter in law asked me to make a quilt for Alden. He is 2 and 1/2 and loves dinosaurs so I found some dinosaur fabric in my pile of fabric.  I did not want to do the usual blocks so I cut each one out with some of the background color and started adding strips of colorful fabrics that brought out the color in the dinosaur.  I cut the strips different widths to keep it interesting.  Here is what I came out with.  Each block will be 15 inches square and I plan to sash them with that dark blue. Each dinosaur is different and the strips will be attached in random colors to make sure each block is unique!

This site has inspired me so much.  I am much more willing to think outside the box and I love it.

What a terrific idea! Way easier than fussy cutting. I'm going to save this in my idea binder.

thanks for the nice comments I will post a photo when I finish it. My other daughter in law wants me to make a quilt for Reed using sports as a theme! that should be interesting. I will post photos when I start that one. I no longer look in quilting books for ideas I let the fabric lead me...
I love this site. I have learned so much and I have gotten some great ideas from all of you!
Can you believe it is already the end of January 2011..where did the years go! I am getting old too fast.
