Cathy's July Blocks: INSPIRED!!!

I made Cathy's JULY Blocks today, and I had to share with you
that it inspired a whole new quilt for me...
A perfect example of 15 minutes play, setting you off in a new direction!

Many of you who know me well, know I do not have a lot of LIGHT fabrics. I am not a fan of many white quilts, unless they are antique.  I rarely use white. Mostly because of MURPHY'S LAW
( I always get sewing machine oil or something else, slopped on them before I finish them...)  I had to really DIG to find any light fabrics... I have many with a blend of colors (easier to hide a grease spot!) I was sewing along making the 9.5" block except I kept sewing and made a HUGE piece of fabric...

Wow! It was so pretty I couldn't stop!  I cut out the one square I needed for her block, and saved my scraps to sew back together to make a block for me!

This is a color palette I would never have set out to use, had I not made this piece of fabric.

Then I had to play with it, and duplicate it on the computer to see how it might look...And my creative engine's are turning! Humming along... hummmmmmmmmm......

SAVE ALL YOUR WHITE-ISH SCRAPS... I feel a scrap-a-long coming in the fall...
Start sticking them away in a special bag! Weeeeeeeeeeeee!

Count me in for the fall scrap-a-long. it will be challenging because I have hardly any whites or neutrals for that matter. I have most of the Kona gray solids, a lot of black /white and white/black and many bright colored prints. Now you've got me thinking Victoria. :))

I too, have VERY LITTLE WHITE, that's why I thought I better start saving up the ones I have now! LOL!

May have to do some trading for whites for this one!

Hmmm. I don't use white unless I have to. It makes me look fat, so I think I have an aversion to it. I will start looking for and saving my light scraps. I think I may have some somewhere. This should be fun.

I'm with you about the whites. I don't wear white much for the same reason. This looks like it will be a fun possibility coming up! You are so inspirational!

I'm ready I guess. I just got a pile of batiks in neutral colors. They were to make a more traditional color challenge quilt. Really pretty but they are all cream/off white. Now I have to start looking for white -whites because I really like the clear colors.

I'm glad my block inspired you. I can't wait to see them in person. I'm on vacation and will be home on Saturday. A scrap a long sounds good. Hugsd

I'm all for it! I love light colors almost as much as I love 'dusty blue' - yes, this will be some challenging playtime for sure!!

Hi Victoria--I bopped on over from "Nifty Quilts"--I love white-ish fabrics--they ARE hard to come by tho'--at least arond here. All my stash is pretty bright--love that "Low Volume" look. Great site...Julierose
