I thought the the words " Brightest London is best reached by underground" on the original tea towel that would become the medallion ,were best seperated to reduce the amount of beige in the quilt. So I played with some background ideas.
after making some big 'made ' fabric I decided to slash them into strips rather than squares |
and sandwich them within strips of seersucker...why not???? and then once again. I haven't sewn the dog to the bottom of it...he can run off if he wishes! |
For cornerstones I used scraps left from the Kath Kidson cloth that had lovely images of Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and Big Ben and another scrap of the underground logo and just added fabric to make the right size. As you can see nothing is particularly measured, and certainly nothing square but immense fun and it holds lots of treasured fabrics. Definately a 'keeper' ...now to look for some backing. Its got to be an old tablecloth or a vintage sheet! Now...who's for a cuppa??

Oh my goodness, love it all! Great balance of colors and lights/brights, and so fun! A+!
WAHOO! Looks how fabulous the made fabric works with the design of your tea towel! Meant to be! Put the tea pot on honey! I'm comin' over!
Wow, I must get cracking on mine!
Famulous!
This is fabulous and you were so quick.
Thanks for your comments guys, i really enjoyed the process and completed the top in three days. It did help having my boy off school with a bad cold/cough..whilst he's been drawing and catching up on homework I've been sewing. He did have 15 mins play himself, just after sewing his own hankies out of a lovely old soft sheet!!
Wow! It's gorgeous!
Makes me want to work on mine!!!
maybe tonight...
fabulous! and I haven't even decided on a tea towel yet and you're already finished! I have that subway map tea towel as well -- I like how you incorporated it here.
WOW!
Wonderful quilt...and so meaningful, too!!! And seersucker's so vintage. Love it all.
Absolutely love it!
LUST! Definitely! I so am lusting after this!
Great fun and very clever presentation! Wow! I'd be there in a second for that cuppa and a good look at this quilt!
yes please black and one.
The central image is 20's and gives the whole quilt a strong sense of perspective. Great movement. Super Stitching!!
just a brilliant composition! I really luv it!
Love your towel image and echoing it with the orange fabrics. I'll take a cuppa if you have a spare..
This is lovely, Julie. The colours in the borders echo the colours in the tea towel and the seersucker (escalator fabric, yes) works so well. I also like the way you have split the wording.
WOW!!! That is awesome!!! Love your use of color and pattern.
Stunning! You're a hard act to follow!
Fabulous! What a knockout...Karin
