But as she was a quilter, sometimes the view affects how one works, and her work started to reflect her vision... So the NEW view, became a quilt.
Cheap Hotels, 2009, Victoria Findlay Wolfe |
Using up all her scraps, (moi) that were stuffed into a box for a rainy day, the girl (moi)
improvisation-ally and intuitively, began "making fabric" from the bits, and cutting here and there, and adding an d BUILDING until she had a finished product...
then something even more disturbing happened...
More workers and cranes appeared right outside her window...
and eventually her new view is now this...
Now one could be sad by this, or happy,
depending on how it affected your property value, or your LIGHT...
OR, one could deal with the view and build, (like the building) yet another quilt...
The new view is not as exciting as the old view, and in fact, the LIGHT does get refracted beautifully into the girls studio. So she may whine a bit,but only just a bit...
So.
When one needs inspiration, one just needs to....
Look into your neighbors windows!
no no no, just kidding... ( well sort of)
Just look outside...
So the NEW CHALLENGE is to:
Make a QUILT based on some sort of ARCHITECTURE.
I'd like to ask that we make them all a certain size...
24" X 30" vertical or Horizontal...
(Only because sometimes size makes you approach your fabrics differently!
And maybe we can do something FUN with these afterwards...)
and
you must have a REFERENCE PHOTO to work from... (POST IT HERE)
and
Contain some scrappy MADE FABRIC somewhere in the quilt.
Comment here if you are in!
Once you have your Inspiration Architecture image, Please POST your image here.
If you do not have posting rights on the blog,
you can email me your image and I will post it for you.
Time frame:
I know many are busy,
but many are keen to have a new challenge...
I set the date for July 6th for finishes...
only because I know some need a deadline!
I could set up a linky at the deadline date,
to all those people who want to participate...
Perhaps, I will bring in a guest judge again ,and we can have a mini display of these
with a few gifties to those who participate...
Only to those who participate & finish the quilt...of course.
So.
Get inspired!
PLAY!
I can't wait to see what you find to inspire!
So, once more:
Theme:
Architecture
Size:
24" X 30" vertical or horizontal
Must include:
MADE FABRIC inside the quilt.
work improvisation-ally, on intuitively
Deadline:
July 6th
*post your PHOTO inspiration
and process
and process
are you in?

What a challenge! I would love to take part but I am having hand surgery on Monday, and could be about 3/4 weeks before I am back into serious sewing so I wouldn't be able to guarantee having said quilt finished. However if my hand recovers quickly I could give it a go!
Count me in! I know just what I want to do -- if only I can find the picture. :)
Love this challenge! I'll give it a try.
I believe I'm gonna try this one. I've been wanting to do a quilt based on architecture (which around here means: our barn), and I need some ME play time in between all the have-tos, so I'm gonna try this. The size is good for me to get it out of my system, and you're right -- I need the deadline!
Sounds like a great idea. And luckily I am headed for an architecture tour of OldTown/ChinaTowm this week. A good place to start.
I LUV this I know just what I want to do!!!
I think I will give this one a try! Improvisation is a stretch for me but just what I need right now!
LOVE LOVE LOVE
I am a builder at heart.
Legos, Dollhouses, NYC skyscrapers, custom homes and quilts.
Count me in...it will be so hard to pick a picture but I have an idea...
the size limit is perfect.
Sounds exciting!!! So many buildings to consider! I look forward to another great challenge. Thanks again in advance!
Count me in! I've been thinking about this for awhile. I'll have to get my camera out.
I'm in! Is it okay if I combine this challenge with my guild challenge requiring a "Cottage in the Country"?
I'm in and I love the Architecture theme. I'll be on Lopez Island, WA. in two weeks. I'm sure to find some inspiration there.
I'm in! I even think I have my inspiration picture on my laptop, I have been saving it since we were at the Canary Islands two years ago.
Oh! I think I'll try this! Someone will have to give me directions on the where & how of sharing photos and all....I'm brand new to reading this blog (though V, I read your other blog). Got your book for mother's day this year (e-book) and so I am ready to play!
Looking forward to the challenge. Thanks for hosting.
This sounds great! Count me in.
Oh yes, I'm in. July 6th sounds laughably impossible, but hey, it could happen.
I think Cheap Hotels may be my favorite quilt that I've seen of yours! It is stunning! (IMHO)
I've been wanting to improvise something based on the adobe houses on hillsides around here. I posted this photo last December–though it like won't be my inspiration photo, you can get the idea ...
I'm in just need the rain to clear so I can photo shoot my structure.
I would love to see the photos others are using NOW, before they start working. I have too many ideas! I think it would help to see what others are tackling.
Thats's the idea. People will be posting their images soon. Looking forward to seeing what you select!
This sounds like fun. I am not sure what architecture around here will be quilt worthy, but I may have to drive around with my camera and see what takes a fancy with me. Lot's of hotels and apartments going up - due to housing shortage here they may spark something fun.
Planning done...ready to start
I'm in. This is just what I need to add to my already packed schedule - something creative and fun!
Count me in - another great challenge!
I'll give it a try!
I'd like to participate, although I said that with the tea towel one and got derailed. oops.
I guess I hadn't checked 15 minutes to play for a while, because I didn't know you were having this challange. I would like to join if it is not too late. I have some pictures I took this past Monday in Cleveland at the Flats. I ended up at the Bret Michaels concert and I have some shots of the bridge behind him. I think I will use that as my inspiration. I will email you my pictures.
I LOVE this challenge!!!

Mine might be more 'from my window' than architectural, but I'm loving what I'm doing. Thank you Victoria for the inspiration.
