Teasers

Yesterday I actually, finally, after months of neglect, began quilting my Tea Towel Challenge top. With gold metallic thread, which is so glinty and pretty and fun:

First step is to finish outline quilting all these motifs in the center. Then decide what to do for the borders. I have several other lovely colors of novelty thread, which I'm determined to use although a specific plan has not yet developed.

More pics to come in a few days, I hope. Eager to get this one done so I can start something for the Double Wedding Ring challenge. Nothing to show on that yet, other than it will feature this fabulous fabric (which is quite camera shy, or possibly I've had too much caffeine this morning, as this was the best focused shot I could get after multiple tries!):
I have a Pickle-Dish variation in mind. We'll see if it lives up to the image in my head.

In other news, I have abandoned all hope of making anything for the Architecture Challenge. At least for the foreseeable future. Pics and fabric are still on hand, so perhaps I'll catch up to it another time.

aloha,
Stephanie

looks great. I'm with you on the challenges -- I'm enthusiastic at first, but then life takes over and I slip up.

lovely glinty bits. Is the metallic thread difficult to work with? Is it in the bobbin too?

I love the fabric you're quilting - is it African? And great thread you're using, too. I, also, had plans to do the architecture challenge, but alas, not enough time in the day/week/month!

Jodi: The fabric is Indonesian; looks like a batik but is printed. Pretty mediocre quality, actually, but will look nice when I'm done with it!

Sewing in CT: to my surprise, the metallic thread is not tricky at all. I'd expected problems, but it's handling just fine. I've got Coats & Clarks gold, and some from Superior Threads in other colors. The ST appears to be slightly better quality (as expected), but the C&C is working fine and is a true bright "gold" color. I'm using the recommended 90/14 "metallic" needle, which has a large, long, eye. Plain cotton thread in the bobbin.

There will be a slight delay in progress on this, as I have run out of the gold thread. There's only 125 yards on a spool (now that I look at the find print on the end-label) and I used a good bit of it on some pillow covers before starting on the TTC... let's hope my LQS has more in stock.

That is awesome - I am working on a quilt and wanted to try new things - I will applique hexie flowers and metallic thread could look awesome! 15 Minute Note - my quilt is my own creation and in V's style - I keep asking "what else can I do here?" Thanks for the inspiration. Good luck with your tea towel! Mine is on my bed!

My tea towel project is also suffering from months of neglect. I love the glittery thread on yours!
