I Double DARE You

My choice my word, DARE, came easily.  My little quilt, not so much.  I started by pulling out some previously made fabrics, some made from black and white prints, the other made mostly from shades of pink.

I knew better, but couldn't resist trying using one for the background and the other for the word. After all, I was playing so why not?

The result seemed to say, "I dare you to find my word in this scrappy mess."

I decided to try again ... and realized I was now working on a "double dare."  Can you see the original  in the quilt with the improved version?

I recently received some shiny rayon Madeira thread from Frieda Anderson as part of a give away on her site.  I used it for the scribbly, doodle-ish quilting.

I urge anyone who's thinking about joining this challenge to go for it.  Last year was the first time I used my chosen word in a quilted declaration and reminder.  I love the little quilt I made last year and it really did manage to give me a subtle nudge throughout the year.   Last year, my word was Bloom and my quilt was Bloom Where You're Planted.

Very nice job! I love the word play and graphic play. Lovely colors too!
After I made mine, I saw a post for an applique class at one of my fave quilt shops. I signed up today and look forward to re-doing mine once I know a bit more!

Really cool, Sophie! Love the "double dare" with the one in background. Last year's was great too!

If you hadn't told me what the original word was (in the first quilt), I might not have known, but your "double dare" quilt turned out fantastic. Great job and a nice play on words. Turned out super!

Love both of these! You've inspired me to move this challenge up into "must do" territory (it's been hovering down in the "fun, if I manage to get to it" realm).

Love them both - I hope to start mine today when my grandchildren have gone home. It is set to be a wet day today but perfect for sewing.

Thank you all for the lovely comments. Double Dare was very quickly made. I hope you all give yourself the opportunity to play with this idea for a couple afternoons/evenings.

I like that you split the word in half and used it again in the center! Really interesting to the eye! Kudos!
