A little late with dusty blue

This little 9" square was created using the only scraps of dusty blue I could find.  I decided to try a patriotic theme, since these are colors I almost never put together in a quilt.  The dusty blue came to me as a 10" square someone had left over from a quilt from a long time ago.  The gingham was also a gift, as was the red batik with the dots.  I think the outside border was also a gift.  I did purchase the white and the dark blue with dots for another project.  I grew up with blue, all blue, as my very favorite color.  Somewhere along the line, I have moved away from it.  If I use blue now in my quilts, it is teal, aqua, or turquoise.  I don't remember when that happened.  Anyway, I call this Miss American Pie.  It will be another AAQI quilt.
Do I like the color?  Yes.
Will I use it again?  I really don't know.  Right now, I am trying to work out of my stash, and I don't have many blues.

Two Dusty Blue blocks

I had plenty of dusty blue in my stash, left over from when I first started quilting and I had accumulated a good supply of Civil War and other muted fabrics. First, I pulled out this one for my large block:

I had a nice print that was different shades of blue with some browns - so I pulled a few coordinating fabrics:

...and made this 12.5" block:

Next up was the smaller block, for which I found a strip of Civil War dusty blue:

The nice print that went with it also had green, cream, and browns:

...and made this 6.5" block:

Color Challenge Blocks X 3!

These yellows were so much fun to play with - originally, I was SURE that I was going to play with yellows and purples.  But when I started doing that, the fabrics said - no thanks!  So, I just added a little orange, a little pink, and a little lime green - everything is better with lime green!  I call this my lemon meringue pie block.

Orange is - next to lime - becoming my go-to color...maybe not as a whole scheme, but it sure does add a nice zing to most anything.  I had used up most of my oranges, so I had to shop for some of these!  I call this one Aunt Phyllis's Orange Jello - you know, with the mandarin oranges in it. Yum!

First of all, why did they change blogger?

Ok, didn't have to buy any of these vintage beauties.  But I have to say, this was the toughest challenge so far.  First of all, because I'm not really a fan of blue!  Second, I'm definitely not a fan of any of these fabrics.

I thought I would try a blue-green-yellow scheme, but ...no. Boring.  Never dreamed I would  use red with dusty blue - not a huge red fan either, although it is growing on me! Of course there is a little green in there.  All this blue makes me nostalgic for all those lakes in Minnesota.

All of my blocks - so proud, finally finished a color before the next one is announced!
