Pillow Fun

I started playing in my strip tub one day and began pulling out the black and white strips and sewing them together.  Then I decided it needed some color and I added in a little bit from the other strips in the tub.  Once I was done playing with it I put it on the wall and walked away for a few days.  However, it kept calling me back and it needed to be a pillow.  That meant adding a little bit more to make it square, quilting it, putting a back on it and putting in a pillow form.  This was a lot of fun of just playing with strips and then of playing with the quilting.  

 

 

 

The quilting is free motion large flowers in two different thread colors all over the top and then the space is filled in with lime green vines and leaves.  Lots of fun playing in the studio!

Hey y'all.  I am so happy to post something after having major PC and Internet troubles for the past month!  I want to share a couple of projects that I have completed.  Having posted the starts and doubts on these projects months ago, I received lots of lovely compliments and encouragement. So now, I thought all y'all might want to see the completed quilts.  The first is my log cabin with posies.  I broke every rule I could with this one and had more fun than allowed by law.(I just dare the quilt police to comment).

 

The other project is Vanilla Bean.  Without the colorful dots that I was so tempted to use.

Intuition Collection

I have a handful of small intuition projects that I finished recently... I have really enjoyed seeing all the intuition quilts in progress here and wanted to share. Because each piece is small, that came together quickly and spontaneously... most of my design decisions were based on reaching for the nearest scrap that spoke to me. I really like working on this scale (I've made my biggest quilts ever in the last few months so it's a satisfying contrast) and I think I'll be making more small quilts this year.

Three bookcovers, #1 started it all with the La Virgen panel... she needed clovers for good luck and some extra rays of light. The rays became a star for book cover #2.... and the scraps from both went into the fabric I was making at the time, which (why not?) ended up as cover #3.

This Bloom mini quilt started out with making fabric as well, and I thought it looked like a flower when I put the orange scraps around it. Then it wanted to be in a garden (and orange one!) and have spiky grass (with those triangles on your cutting mat!) and leftover binding stem and some needle-turned leaves. I practiced my free-motion quilting on this as well... which is a much needed start.

Modified Cubism finished!

I am not the kind of person who likes to have a lot of unfinished projects laying around, so I finished this a couple of weeks ago, but saved it until V gave the go-ahead to post it.

This was an attempt at a slightly cubist look and was done in double reverse applique. Coming up with ideas and piecing are always fun to me, but quilting is a taste that I haven't acquired yet . It's a necessary component, but something I have no patience for.

It was a good challenge that Victoria set out for us.Who knew it would be so difficult to want to look at yourself for so long? It also was a change for those of us who primarily only do utilitarian-sized quilts. I can't wait to see the rest of the finishes.
