A V-wonderful Friday Evening..

What a great evening/night. I hung out with BumbleBeans and I actually PLAYED...It has been so long since I just sat at a machine, dug in a bin of scraps and sewed them together without a thought.  Oh soo relaxing after a long work week.  (Remember Thanksgiving week was a short work week, smiles).

I used the wonderful make fabric concept that is the essence of this site.  So for those that need a quick refresher, a picture is indeed worth a thousand words.

This is how it begins...

Then you start to see this.

Time to cut it up even more....this is about cut number three...oh soooo much fun just slashing away.

Then I left and went home.  Allegedely to go to bed to get up early.  But it called me back.

And I was not tired till I was able to see these....

And that is a lovely 15 minutes of Play....I wonder what these will become...Thanks V...a great time.

Inspiration

I may be a little late on this post, but I just returned from 9 days in the Eastern Sierras - fishing, cross stitching, reading - no electricity, so no quilting. But I want to share these pics. They are of two paintings in the apartment of a friend.  The top one was an original. The bottom one was commissioned by his parents. They asked the artist who did the top one to make a similar one of his grandparent's ranch in the California Central Valley.  I would love to make a quilt in this style.

What Inspires Me.

I am inspired by so many things....
A new baby coming.....

A book I'm reading....

A favorite photograph.....

A cause such as Alzeheimers...

A view from my window...

A Challenge....

I love to piece, applique and quilt.  The world around me is my inspiration.  Between you and me.... I've never met a piece of fabric I didn't like.

What inspires you?

Hugs, Cathy

Oh sooo inspiring and ooo so few hours in a day...

I saw the post asking for things, etc that inspire us.  I must say that every day I see something that sparks an idea for a quilt of some sort.  It doesn't matter if it is a full size, queen size, or art sized quilt...I always see something.

So yesterday, while at Massage Envy...I saw this in the quiet area..and thought..hmmm this would make a lovely quilt as you go piece.  I loved the feel of it..and will see if I can actually get a chance to do this...smiles.

Scrap Bee Finish and Inspiration

Just finished this quilt from the Scrap Bee players.  Since it's inspiration week, I'll tell the story of what inspired me.  Before the tulips and the border, I was--and always am--inspired by old string quilts.  I love the magic of using what you have to make something beautiful.  So I asked the Scrap Bee players to send simple string pieced blocks.

Then, in the spirit of using what I had, there were all of these petal shaped scraps from another quilt just sitting there.  What to do?  Well, add them, of course!  There were strips in the quilt that could be seen as stems, so that's how I placed the tulips.

Then I saw an old string quilt that had a red and white polka dot border.  I had about 4 yards of red and white polka dot, just waiting for the right quilt.  I tried it as a border, and it didn't look great.  But the idea for the border was planted.   So I looked in my reds, and found this Hawaiian print.  It screamed, "take me!"  Of course, I had JUST enough for the border.  And just enough of the dots for the back.

That's what inspires me, the old quilts and the magic of using what I have.
