"Galore"-i-ous

In my search to find something FUN to set off four of the Triangle galore blocks, I pulled out this Jane Sassaman  print.   I laid out  a few strips to see if I would like it, 

and instantly decided ,"Yes, it worked!"

Mitering the corners, so the pattern would wrap the corners like it was meant to be, was just the thing to make this start of a medallion lap quilt.

Usually I audition a few fabrics before I set something, But I can safely say, I pulled this Asian Blue print out, and...

Well, somethings are just meant to be.

One more row around? ...Maybe...

Triangles Galore Tutorial

A while back I made the Camo block using triangles and some had asked for the pattern for the block Finally, here it is...

15" Triangles galore block.

Depending on how you lay out your fabrics, you can make this block look different every time! That's part of the FUN in PLAYING!

For the Triangle Cut a piece of paper, 3 3/4'' by 4 1/2'' High.

Mark  your top center by folding your paper in half to make a small crease, draw your lines, cut.  

(I made an adjustment to my size on this template(new size in yellow)... It seems to be better...

Now you have your Triangle to begin your play!

MAKE some Fabric from your scraps.

Two things to REMEMBER when your making fabric... 

Keep your seams trimmed to 1/4'', 

AND Keep the seams presses one way. This will help with ease of construction.

ALSO, use a SMALL #2 stitch length, 

so that when you cut your triangles out of the made fabric your seams will not split apart

Cut 8 triangles from your MADE fabric

Cut two 5 1/2" squares of darker fabric for the corner setting. 

Then cut once on the diagonal so you have 2 triangles.

Again, using your Triangle template, cut 8 triangles for your center.

I chose a solid and a print, cutting FOUR each.

 For your star setting, CUT 16 TRIANGLES using the TEMPLATE. 

Here I chose to cut 8 from a vintage yellow, and 8 from a polka dot yellow.

You can do some PLAY here, by changing the setting using Various colors. 

 Play and see what you come up with!

 Lay your pieces out to see them clearly.

 You will be sewing them together in WEDGES, using a scant 1/4" seam.

I prefer sewing the pieces together left to right to make the triangle wedge.

Keeping it consistent, makes for ease of construction.

I sewed the top LEFT triangle to the center top triangle, then added the TOP RIGHT triangle,

last, sew on bottom Triangle.

Do not rush your 1/4" seams, Take your time,and this blocks goes together perfectly.

 Always trim OFF your POINTY bits... It will make your block go together smoothly!

 Once you have your wedges sewn together...

 Sew the TOP FOUR wedges together, then sew your Bottom wedges together.

TRIM THOSE POINTY BITS OFF!!!

Join your two HALVES, and add your corner setting triangles.

Makes a 15" block

You can also paper piece these and have perfect blocks.

When you make these blocks you MUST PIN at each critical point. This will save you a lot of WORK in getting your points to match up, both the traditional piecing AND the paper piecing.

 Always press your seams open on the UNITS.
