Blocks of the month

Hey all you lovely people!

I've been playing in my Christmas scraps.... how about you?

Thanks for taking the time to respond to the post I put up a week ago.
It helps me understand who is playing, what you want to do, etc. and to sift through
all the ideas rambling around in my brain...

I've been so pleased with the 12 x 12 swap! It seems to have really helped push
a few of you out into the playing field!

If you are making one, and can't post it, please send me an email with
your image and I can post it for you.
We have 46 people playing along. Have you started yours yet?
remember you have to SHIP them off by May 16th.

Could you email me when you ship? and when you received?

To follow up that post. (HERE)

After we finish the 12 X 12 in May, something I would like to do ,

is to do
Blocks of the month.

How we could do this.
Each month, one or two people take a traditional block of their choice and
does a tutorial about how to make the block, (cutting sizes and layout)
and will incorporate MADE fabric into the pattern.

Rather like I did my Star Splitter,
I used my made fabric to make the traditional star,
and pieced it with the yellow/pink fabric...

Then those who want to make the blocks each month,
can do so, pick and choose which you want to make, join in if you want to. etc.

We can provide a link so that all the instructions are always
accessible for people to scroll through when they are looking for ideas.

And then for you all to post as you play along.
Your work, your interpretations,
and at some point a finished quilt.

Many of you commented about honing skills, and breaking out of the box.
I think this covers both of those areas!

If you think you'd like to write a tutorial for a block
please comment here or email me.
bumblebeansinc at gmail dot com

ANY of you readers out there who are playing along (who are not listed on the side bar)
who want to contribute, can email me the tutorial and I can post it, and or your work.

I will need at least 12 people... BUT would like more people...
I think two blocks presented a month will keep it interesting!
People will make as they can...

Things you need to include in your tutorial:

Block size should be 12.5" unfinished.
Provide cutting sizes, block layout Either in drawing or
a photo showing the layout
and a quick
diagram how to put your block together.
And a picture of one completed BLOCK.
one aspect of the block must incorporate "MADE FABRIC"
(SEE LINK IN SIDE BAR FOR MAKING FABRIC)

So what do you think?
Time to hit that book of 550 quilt blocks and get inspired...

;-)

Email me or comment, and we can make schedule for when you
might want to do a block tutorial...

(there is NO COMMITMENT that you HAVE to make the blocks,
we are only providing the information on the "how to" to inspire you to
"MAKE".. All I need from you is a tutorial for one block.)

Victoria,
Sorry I didn't comment last week, I was sort of unsure how the whole thing works. I am part of the block swap, haven't started my block yet, but I have the idea of what I'm going to make.
I also like the idea of doing the block of the month. I've been quilting for a while and would like to step outside the box I've got myself in.
Thanks so much for all the inspiration, it's been great!

This is a great idea. I would like to participate by doing a block tutorial. I love the idea of combining made fabric in a traditional way. This will be fun. Thanks.

I like the block of the month too! Would it be fun to have a block lotto for them, or too much? I would do a tutorial either way.

I think it's a great idea,V! Count me in, I'd like to do a tutorial; but not one of the first-I have to "catch up" some blocks for my other bee. I love that this blog inspires all sorts of new things and the idea of taking tradition and "mixing it up" a bit is something I'm always game for!

I know exactly what block I would do. I will email you separately.
