Love . . . again

My word for 2014 is LOVE.

I am also in a Swap with our NYC Metro Mod Guild,
and the theme is LOVE.

I love how this one came out.  Even more than my first one!
All made fabric.

I may have to make another or me!!
Now just to quilt and bind it.
12 x 12
Each letter block finishes at 4"

LOVE

There are so many words I could choose . . .

Faith, Hope, Surrender, Gratitude . . .

But at the end of the day,

I choose LOVE.

I am going to try to live every moment from a place of love.
Even in the most challenging of moments, I will try to choose LOVE.
I'm sure it will make to moments a bit easier to handle.
Happy New Year!
Thanks V. oxox

Mini Complete!

I finally finished my Mini Amish!
I love it.  Thanks for the help with the layout.

I think I may have to make another.
And I may never throw out another scrap for as long as I live.
Thanks Victoria!!!  Hehehe.

Mini Amish Progress

I'm going with a nine patch theme here.
My little made fabric squares are 1.25 inches.
They are tiny for sure!
I loved making them.

The nine patches measure 3" square.
I used tiny little seam allowances.

Now my quandary is this . . .

I can't decided which of these layouts for the center to use.

What do you think?

I would love a little advise.

My Mini Amish Start

I just love this challenge!
Funny enough, I bought a bunch of solids a few weeks ago,
so I was all set to jump into this challenge.

I chopped up some pieces . .

They were even a little big, so I sewed them together and chopped them some more.

Here are my first pieces waiting to be trimmed down.
I'm not sure which direction this is going in,
but it is really fun so far!
They look like those multicolored crayons!

Still Playing!

I have finished up two of the blocks I was working on in Victoria's

We had so much fun!
The colors is this photo are so off!
I add in some spikes to the center, and then cut out
the very center because it was a mess!

I had cut up the made fabric for a dresden plate and was fooling around
with an alternate fabric.

In the end I went to all made fabric and put the check in the center.
Still not sure . . . It may get changed.

I do love the teal center on the kaleidoscope block!
And those colors are more true to the actual block.

Now . . .  what to do with them?!!!
Hehe, the wheels are turning.

Scrap Swap Challenge . . . mermaid style!

When my box form Willa arrived last week,
I was tickled pink!
Such great fabrics and orphan blocks tucked inside.
My first thought was, "Oh I definitely got the better box of scraps!

And then I got an email from Willa saying the same thing about the box I sent her!
Haha.  So glad we are both tickled pink with our new stash.

I went through the box and started pulling blues and purples, and greens.
Then added some hot pinks and yellows.

Here is what I have made so far . . .

Not sure where this is going, but I am loving the play with
all these "new to me" treasures!
Thanks to Victoria for organizing!

Let there be Lights!

I have finally finished my whites-lights challenge top.
This is the first time I have done blocks with exclusively made fabric.
I decided to keep it simple and put them all together
without and sashing or extras.

I ended up with thirty 12.5" blocks,
and the top measures 60" x 72"

It's all layered and ready to be quilted.
I'm just pondering how that will go!
Hope you all had a good weekend.

Six More!

Six More Whites-Lights . . .

They seem to be getting brighter,
I think I may need to add to my stash to lighten these up!
What a shame . . . .  hehehehe

Whites and Lights . . . I'm in!

I didn't think I had a lot of whites and lights,
but on further  investigation . . .
I have a good pile.

I made this one last night;
I can see this is going to be addicting!

And the Greens are bringing up the rear . . . .

Lime Green and Kelly Greeen!

I am going to stop at sweet sixteen,
Good thing too, I had to piece some cobalt blue to finish the last block!

Aqua and Maroon

It's been a crazy couple of weeks for me, but I'm glad to have caught
up with my blocks before the next crazy color gets reveled!

I though I had taken a picture of my aqua palette, but I can't find it.
I used aqua, red, purple and brown.
It's okay.  Aqua.  Not alot in my stash, but this one is the closest I had.

On to Maroon!
Now this I knew I had none of.
But . . . . I remembered that my friend Helen sent me some of her
scraps last fall, so I went on a hunt through my scrap bin.
I love to hunt through the bin!
And there is was . . . the perfect Maroon!

I paired it with gold, forest green and a leafy print.
Maroon has always reminded me of fall.
Maroon and Gold were my school colors in Middle School,
and I think that's why I think of them together at fall football games.

I feel like color can be so nostalgic.
It reminds us of events and people.
Just like the smells of our mother's cooking and baking.

So here they are, Aqua and Maroon.

And all my blocks so far, they are dancing off my very limited design wall!

I have started to play around with how I'm going to set them,
but I think that will be a surprise!
Sew on!

Minty Goodness

Mint . . .
First color I had not a scrap of!
Had to actually go buy some.
I paired it with bright pink, orange, and a dark berry.
I like these together, looks like an ice cream shoppe.

So here is my latest dancing star.
Now to Aqua, I'm sure I must have that!

Lip Smacking Bubble Gum Pink

I have alot of Pink!
I love Pink.
All shades of Pink.

So finding a Bubble Gum Pink was easy for me.
I mixed in a dark orange and lime green.
A preppy girl never loses her roots.  Haha.
But V. is right, brown is just what bubble gum pink needs
to calm her down, ground her a bit.

Bubble Gum Pink Star
Decide to make this one look like a normal star.
Whatever normal is!

Purplicious

I don't have alot of purple in my stash,
which is funny because I love bright colors.

I did manage to find a good grapey purple though.
I have always love this combo of purple, green and blue.
When I was in art school, I seemed to always go back to this set of colors.
It's so calming. Soothing.

So here is my purple "star."
I LOVE IT!

Hot, Hot, Hot!

Tomato Red!
Love it.
I could have gone with the brights I usually pick,
but I decided to try something different.
Hot pink with tomato red you say?
Yes it can work!

The floral inspiration fabric is Kaffe Fassett of course.

I was worried about how the cobalt blue would mix in with these
other colors, but I think it looks great.

So here are my nine dancing stars . . .

Two for One

Here are my dusty blue and rust blocks.
I fell a bit behind, so today was catch up.

I was surprised to find a perfect dusty blue in my stash.
I think it must have been given to me,
because I don't remember buying.
That's not to say I didn't buy it, I just don't remember!
I paired it with hot pink, green and a orange and yellow print.
I am beginning to think that orange goes with everything!

So onto the rust . . .
I know that piece of fabric was given to me by my friend Bambi Shapiro.
She gave me the blue and gold here too.
I added the green.
No orange in site, maybe orange doesn't go with everything.

So here are my two newest blocks.

And here are my eight all together.
I will start playing around with them now.

I need a bigger design wall.
Guess I'll move to the floor.

Tangerine Orange

I LOVE Orange!
Could it be because I have strawberry blonde hair?
Or that orange is so close to my sunshine yellow?

And with orange I love everything bright!
Bright, bright, bright!
Here we have golden yellow, turquoise and hot pink.
I love hot pink and orange together.

This was the first hot pink I choose, but it was too busy.
I love the little black sheep in this print.
Wish I could remember where I bought it,
It is too cute!

So here is my next "yoga" block, as Victoria so kindly named them today!
Haha.
So true.
